Children of Romania,
Oil painting,100cm/120cm,
2010
This is
the way I picture Romania`s orphans. Romanian authorities seized the right for
orphaned children to be adopted internationally so if they are not adopted
within Romania they are considered a burden on society and locked away. Their
story is heartbreaking to me.
Tornadoes and an eruption of plants are intruding in a strange beautiful way in this work.
The piece aims to signify children's pain and misfortune. Strong colours are used to denote an innocence and fearlessness, whilst the vegetation simultaneously acts as their refuge.
